Mounting a Camera on your Vespa or Stella

With the emergence of online video sites like Youtube and Google Video everyone is creating videos these days. And after seeing a few nifty scooter videos I decided I wanted to find an affordable way to mount my camera on my Stella. Now since this works on a Stella I know it will work on a Vespa and my hunch is (especially they way it connected) is that it should work on any Lambretta -- basically any vintage scooter.

There are three things you are going to need to make this work. Instead of having you search all over for them I am going to tell you exactly what to order to make this work. I ordered from a company called Express Mounts though I am sure if you google you can find what works best for you.

The three items you will need are (from left to right) Ram-B-272, Ram-B-201U and Ram-B-202A. However, as you look at the many Ram options you may find something that meets your meeds better. I did find this decent site about a gentleman who attached his treo to his vespa ; but, he was using a new vespa and I wanted to do it on the Stella. On his site you will see that he mounts the first item above (the 272)treo mount vespa

to the mirror:

And while he is doing something a bit different it looked close enough to what I wanted to do to take it as an example.

The one major difference between his installation and what I found on the stella was that I could not mount the first item under the mirror like he has.

I mounted mine underneath the brake handle (though I am sure you could do it under the clutch as well if you wanted it on that side). I just didn't have enough clearance after taking the mirror off to rebolt the mirror with this accessory included. You may have a different mirror and if so that would be the best place to mount it. But, I certainly don't see that happening on most vintage bikes as many of them simply don't have mirrors at all.

But, it fit snugly attached underneath the brake handle. The other caveat t doing it this way is that I could not attach the second piece (the arm) straight up and down like the gentlemen with the treo did. Attaching it in that manner caused it to interfere with the mirror (though, if you don't have a mirror like most vintage scoots that problem will be eliminated).

But, the way the third piece connects to the arm the position of the arm was minor. The last piece connects to the arm much like his treo mount and that is where I mount my camera.

Of course I do have to say -- that if you aren't comfortable tweaking with your brake or clutch lever this isn't advisable.

You can see in this photo how I have it attached just under the brake lever.
